Flag beach, Rocky Point and the world famous Lobos Breaks are all within 15 minutes walk* from the gate of your luxury villa.
We’ve prepared a map of the best surf spots around the island:
WINDSURFING
Fuerteventura is also windsurfing's European equivalent of Hawaii. In July and August, the island is frequently influenced by strong easterly winds that are channelled and accelerated by the topography of the island. It’s possible to windsurf anywhere on the coast, but these are the privileged spots:
· Playa de Sotavento/Costa Calma/Paso del Risquo
· Corralejo
Playa de Sotavento in the South
Starting in Costa Calma and spreading south for about 25km is the Playa de Sotavento, an ideal area for windsurfing and kitesurfing, for experts and beginners alike. The wind, when at its best, is offshore, coming from the Atlantic side and accelerated by the hills lying behind. During the months of July and August, it can easily blow 7 to 9 bft. The area itself is ideal for beginners, as the higher waters fill the lagoon and allow for waist deep, very flat waters, as they are protected from the waves by the long almost continuous sand bar. For the more advanced enthusiasts, the other side of the sand bar i.e. the open sea, can produce some nice waves for surfing and jumping. Playa de Sotavento is home to World Cup Kite and Windsurfing competitions
Corralejo in the North
These are the recommended sites for windsurfing in and around Corralejo:
Rocky Point/ Black Reef launch from the shore with sail sizes 5.9 to 5.0 with a light wind board.
It is possible to sail out to Lobos Island.
Glassbeach (El Burro) In Northeast wind conditions this is recommended. Sail size 5.4 to 4.2, wave boards.
Flagbeach cross shore wind frequently from the left, the centre rent out boogy, surf and kiteboards. Sail size: 5.9 0 4.2, all boards.
* Casa Miel is a little further to the beaches, but a 30 minute walk will get you into the surf!
